Jalgaon is a city in western India, to the north of the Maharashtra state in Jalgaon District, which itself is located on the northern Deccan Plateau. Located within the productive, irrigated agricultural region of Khandesh.
The world famous Ajanta caves are at a distance of 55 kms. from Jalgaon. There are buses for Ajanta every half an hour. Known as "Banana-City", it contributes to about half of the Maharashtra state's Banana production.
Jalgaon is also the hometown of Pratibha Patil, the 12th President of India and Suresh Jain.
Cultural activities : Jalgaon has hosted a number of musical concerts. Artists like Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Zakir Hussain, Jagjit Singh, Vaishali Samant, Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana and Swapnil Bandodkar have performed at Jalgaon.
An event by the name of Khandesh Festival took place from January 28 to 30, 2010. Various competitions were conducted during these three days which show the real Khandeshiness. Stalls of Khandeshi dishes were arranged at Sagar park. Top Indian music artists like Shreya Ghoshal, Avadhoot Gupte and Pankaj Udhas performed here.
Jalgaon district comprises 15 talukas (tahsils) and 12 Vidhan Sabha constituencies.
